New School for Dominic

This week, Dominic started at a new school, World Academy. It will be very exciting for he has so many new adventures to look forward to with the new school. However, Humpty Dumpty (his previous school), was his first school and it was hard to leave.  All the teachers were so wonderful and they really loved him.

Dominic started at Humpty Dumpty when he was about 10 months old.  While he was there, he started out in the infant room and then graduated to the toddler room.  Watching him grow up there and become a big boy was so much fun.  He learned so much and had so much fun with all the activities they did.  In the toddler room this year is where they started "Zoo-phonics". "Zoo-phonics" is a method developed to make children strong readers and spellers using a phone (hearing), oral (speaking), visual (seeing), kinesthetic (moving), and tactile advanced phonemic concepts through an easily understood, concrete method of presentation.  Zoo-phonics uses animal drawn in the shapes of letters for ease in memory.  A related body movement is given for each letter.  This concrete approach cements the sounds to the shapes of the letters. Lowercase letters and their sounds are taught first, capital letters and letter names are taught later.  When Dominc left, which was the end of the school year (June 12th), we were given a binder which was his completion of the Zoo phonics program.  This also included pictures with him and his friends completing the program through the year. There was also a good-bye letter from all the teachers with a note on how much there going to miss "Dom".

June 15th was the first full week at World Academy and Dominc had a great report.  His classroom is called "Owls" and consists of Nishi, Patrick, Gavin, Ainsley, Shaikha, Atharv, Joey, Owen, Corinne and Elina and his teachers are Tatiana and Alyson. At this school, it is a similar daily program to Humpty Dumpty where they have story time, circle time, activity, music & movement followed by an activity.    They also promote potty training every time there is a diaper change and Dominic has been going at least 2-3 times per day.

The first day I dropped Dominic off, he was very comfortable and started to play with his new classmates.  Every day since then, he has been good about saying his goodbyes but still tends to be shy. When I pick him up from school is the best because he shouts out  "MOMMY" and starts sprinting to me yelling what hes done today.

This week, I surprised Dominic and picked him up early only to find him with his friends being pirates and playing in the water.  Dominic and his friend Joey were jumping over the sprinkler and having a lot of fun in the water.  Dominic slipped several times because he was running so fast but got right back up and laughed.

Some things Dominic conquered this week were pretty cool;

  • Climbed the caterpillar at Benson Park
  • Getting much better with putting his long socks on
  • Walking on the balance been all by himself
  • Conquered taking the soccer ball from daddy with his feet, not is hands
  • Ate mommies lasagna and new cheese pasta dish
  • When I ask why he likes something his new word is "because" but not in a mean way

"The Caterpillar"

"The Snake"

Two weeks ago, mommy and Dom took an other trip to the beach where we had a blast and meet some new friends.  He did so wonderful with playing in the ocean, getting messy with the snails we found and played A LOT in the sand.  We dug many holes and filled them with ocean water for the seagulls to come back and play.  This is how we started to make our friends who then helped us with this project. This led to a whole day of play and getting sandy.  It is always hard to leave the beach but after every trip I am so proud of my little guy.  Its not easy carrying all the beach stuff and having a crazy two and half year old on your hip.

Till next time and our next adventure and update on Doms new school and all the awesome things hes learning.

Lots to catch up on....been busy busy busy

In mid-April, Poppy came to visit Dominic and we had a blast.  It was finally getting warm out after our horrible New England winter.  The few days we had with Poppy, we visited Roby Park, played in the back yard with new birthday toys, one on one bonding and was also treated to new toys.  Dominic's new toys were Nerf swords, and construction outfit. Dominic also wanted to showed Poppy how he rides his motorcycle he got for Christmas from Poppy.   The day Poppy came to visit, we picked him up at the Manchester Airport. As we waited for Poppy, we watched planes come and go in excitement.

Dominic has had his motorcycle for a few months now and has been able to go forward but NOW, he is a pro at driving and turning the wheels.  We are still working on the reverse, but almost have it down.  He also enjoyed showing Poppy his "Shop" which is in our basement next to his work bench.  Dominic will turn over the bike and start to work on it.  He LOVES to use his drill and hammer. Overall, we had a great visit and cherished every moment.

Dominic has always been a very observant child and as he gets older, he is voicing all these little things he has picked up on.  Such as, when he is working on his cars or trains he informs us what hes doing and why.  I also love how he includes the sounds such as the drill or hammer as hes playing(even though we can clearly hear the hammer noise).

We also have been getting our hands dirty with outside gardening, puddle jumping, markers and painting.  Mommy loves to color and paint with Dominic because its fun to see how much he has gotten better at drawing shapes and staying in the lines.  I have also been working more with the basic colors (blue, red, green, yellow and orange).  He is great with orange and red but many times things are just BLUE.

Since I have Thursdays off from work.  Dominic and Mommy have been keeping busy with trips to See Science, the park, aviation museum, library and so much more.  During these trips, Dominic loves to ask questions and try things on his own.  At See Science he loves to cook for mommy, watch the Lego train travel by and play with the bubbles.  He loves bubbles so much, we have bought a few packages but were keeping them for out door fun.  At the park, Dominic has become more comfortable with the climbing wall and big boy swing.  He still makes sure someone is there to watch him on his adventures.  Dominic reminds me of my little sister when it comes to hearing airplanes and motorcycles.  When Kim was a baby, it would be so quite and all the sudden she would look up to the sky and point out the smallest plane flying across.  It blows my mind and this is what Dominic does too.

As the weather has gotten warmer and snow has melted, Dominic was able to ride his bike outside.  For his 2nd birthday mommy and daddy got Dominic a toddler bike with his own "Spider man" helmet.  We started off with rides in our driveway but that was to restricting, so he said.  So than we hit the streets and rode around the neighborhood with Ellie.  It took some time with the steering, but hes getting the hang of when to go straight and turn left or right.

One project mommy has had on her list, but was waiting till Dominic got older, was sewing a blanket.  I wanted to wait till he was old enough so he choose his fabric that he wanted, and reflected his personality.  It did not take me long to sew the blanket and thank goodness for I was so excited to give him this present.  Now, when we have movie nights or cuddle sessions. Daddy pulls out the twin quilt I made him while pregnant with Dom and now Dominic has his own like daddy.  I guess I am next to make one for myself??

Dominic took his 1st trip to the ocean on May 28th to Wallis Sands Beach in Rye, NH.  It was still early for the water to be warm enough to get in so we put our feet in the water. We also started to chase the waves and be chased too.  It was fun and Dominic screamed with excitement.  You may know already that Dominic loves birds too, so it was quite a treat to see all the seagulls and try to catch them.  No, Dominic was never really close to touching them but that did not stop him from trying.  Dominic LOVED the sand and creating crazy castles and sea creatures out of sand molds.  It took some time for him to get the concept down on how to pack the sand and flip the castle.

Overall, these past few months Dominic still loves to ask questions, but now he even explains how certain things work or what is happening.  For example, with his train set he likes to say when Thomas is going up the hill and over the bridge to get the coal or taking his airplanes and flying them around the room saying "were going to save peoples" and makes the airplane noises.  One of my favorite things he does is "hide and seek" from Ellie.  He yells what were about to do and we hide with a "shhhhhhh no Ellie right?".  His imagination has grown so much and I love to just sit back and watch it flourish.  Reading is something that we LOVE to do in the Ambrose house and from our friends and family, our construction book collection has grown.  Any where we go and see the construction trucks, Dominic now tells us which truck it is and what it does.

June 15th Dominic will be starting at World Academy and we are very excited.  The classrooms are smaller and he will get more individual attention.  I am hoping he will have a easy transition but we shall see.  He has been doing really good with his potty training and getting comfortable.  He will go at least once day whether at school or home.  I feel that with room set up in the new school he will get better and going more and see the other kids going and with his curiosity things will go smoothly.  I love Humpty Dumpy and Dominic has had such a wonderful experience there and we will miss it so much.  I have been so lucky to have them keep a journal about Dominic's first 2 years there and will cherish those memories.  Here is to a new beginning and new friends.
