SPRING ART WORK
When Cayleigh arrived, the kids explored several of the dinosaurs and their fossils, became astronauts, looked at bees/baby chicks and even played with their shadows. The kids had a blast and it showed through their laughter, smiles and holding hands.
While we were at the Boston Science Center, I let him stroll around on his own (no stroller or holding hands). He did a great job with his listening skills and staying with mommy.
As Dominic gets older, watching him discover new things for the first time and starting to understand how things work, is so much fun. I want to continue to make field trips to The Boston Science Center and explore as many new things, as possible with him.
When we head to the YMCA, we have held off on swimming in order to avoid ear infections. So now when we head their we play basketball and run a monk throwing the basket ball and kicking the basketball into the soccer goal.
For Christmas, Dominic received his first wooden train set from his Nana and Bampa. Since then, daddy has bought more track and trains to add on. So now a days, you will find Dominic busy driving his trains along the train track with the various trails he has created.
Dominic has such an imagination and it is fun to hear his stories he makes up with each of his trains. Some of these stories are about going fast up the hills, being a nice engine, saying Thank You a lot or just moving them around the track. Though at times he gets frustrated when the bridge falls over hell ask for help. But mommy and daddy say you can do it and after settling down, he is able to fix the bridge.
We are continuing to work on using our words when we get sad and frustrated. Dominic has gotten much better doing this and I can see an ease in him at times when I just ask once to "use your words". As a reward, when he uses his words to express his feelings of frustration. I have started to let him sit at the table, in the big boy seat (with out a booster) and he LOVES it.
Its hard to believe just about a year ago, Dominic was just starting to walk and talk. Today, he is sprinting around the house/play ground, singing all the time and saying the craziest things. Dominic also watches everything you do and say. One of the things he picks up on now are feelings of people. This has been interesting to watch and at times he can be a little emotional himself.
Talk about a kid loving to read and be read too. He could sit for hours reading and dancing. When I read certain books, I know he will want to have us read the story again and again. When I know this is a book he will want to do this with, I emphasize certain parts of the story and see if he remembers. Then let him fill in the words. Our favorite books are the bed time rhymes, If you Give a moose a muffin, If you Give a dog a doughnut, Pete the Cat and Supertruck and Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site.
On a sweet side note of some of the things Dominic does. One night we were hanging out in the front room and decided to read a few books. Mommy went to go get them and when she came back, Dominic said I couldn't sit on the couch. I was a little puzzled but then looked over to daddy on the couch and saw he was laid out. Dominic wanted to sit like daddy with his arms behind his head and then have mommy read to them both.
