The past month has been full of monumental moments in Dominic's Life and fun changes. In early March. Dominic's teacher at Humpty Dumpty, Mrs. Jessica, decided to take a job closer to home and told us she was leaving. She had been there since Dominic started at Humpty Dumpty as he adjusted to his days without Mommy and NaNa I know Dominic will miss her.
After a few weeks, Cindy, the owner, found a new replacement, Ms. Melissa. Ms. Melissa is very sweet, caring, fun and very organized like mommy. At first, Dominic wanted nothing to do with her. After about 2 weeks, thing seemed to be getting better and Dominic was adjusting well. To help create structure and a fun learning environment, Ms. Melissa just started this new program for the Infant room which consisted of fun activities, books and activities.. To keep the parents up to date and involved, she sends a letter home once a month informing Mommy and Daddy of the activities they are working on.
For the month of April, the first craft was to decorate an Easter Egg. When Dominic brought it home he was very excited and we displayed it on the fridge so everyone can see. The following day when I went to drop Dominic off. I was greeted by Ms. Melissa and was informed how Dominic decorated his egg. Many students would take the paint brush of glue and glob it every where, but not Dominic. He did exactly what Ms. Mellissa demonstrated on "how to apply" the glue then apply the color squares. He even got more creative and crumpled pieces of colored paper and applied two at once.
Ms. Melissa also informed us that Dominic LOVES to talk to everyone and says Momma, Bye-Bye, Hi, Hello and much more. He enjoys interacting with his peers and demonstrates fine-motor strength while reaching and grabbing and holding onto toys. Now that its warmer outside, the kids are able to play on the playground where Dominic climbs on everything he can get on and loves to swing on the swings.
This week was the first time I went to get Dominic from school and he did not race to me, he was playing with his friend and their toy cars. It made me sad to realize he is really growing up and becoming a toddler.
At home one activity Dominic LOVES to do is climb up and down the stairs repeatedly. He enjoys crawling the stairs but now he wants to hold Mommy's hand and walk the stairs.
On April 3rd Dominic turned 15 months old and he is a growing boy. He weighed in at 23 lbs and 30 1/4" tall. When going through the list of words and activities Dominic can do I was told that he only needed to say 3 words and a few other items so he clearly passed that test. The one thing we had been working on was walking on his own. He loves to walk with mommy hand in hand but is very cautious about doing this on his own. I was re assured that this was normal and he will walk on his own in time. He is strong both in his upper body and lower body. He just needs to have confidence in himself. Overall, Dominic had a great check up and well be back to get his shots.... he had a ear infection.
To help Dominic with his walking I make sure we walk to and from the car every time we run errands. This took patience since Dominic would start walking but then get distracted by a car going by, squirrels chasing each other or the leaves blowing in the wind. He would stop and stare at every distraction.
During the day and at night, Dominic would take a few steps here and there for us but would get scared and just collapse. On April 7th, after a long day Dominic was home from school because he was sick. Mommy and Dominic were playing with the cats and Ellie when all the sudden. He turned to mommy while standing by the couch, started to walk towards her and was just smiling ear to ear. I started to cry and scream YA-YA then right away called daddy and inform him of the good news.
Dominic still loves to crawl so he is 50/50 with walking and crawling.
